Extra Betting deskChecked

Extra Betting describes markets it does not control. This page draws the line between what our pages can tell you and what only the operator, the regulator or you can decide.

In short

  • We publish information; we do not take bets.
  • Odds, codes and bonuses on our pages are dated snapshots.
  • The rules of your province and the terms of the operator always prevail.
  • No pick, model or system removes the house edge.

An information service

Extra Betting is a publication. It has no cashier, no betting engine and no customer accounts. A wager placed after reading one of our pages binds only you and the sportsbook, casino or poker room that took it; Extra Betting stands outside that agreement and has no power to reverse, void or settle it.

Your province sets the law

Since single-event wagering became legal federally in 2021, each province has decided how sports betting and online casinos are offered. Ontario licenses private operators through iGaming Ontario under the supervision of the AGCO; most other provinces run their own lottery platforms. Reviewing a brand here does not confirm that it may legally serve your province.

Offshore operators

Several brands we cover are licensed outside Canada. We mark them as offshore on every list. Using them may leave you without access to a Canadian regulator if a dispute arises, and some banks block payments to them. Their complaint procedures run through the authority that issued the licence, often in another time zone and another legal system. Weigh that before you register.

Minimum age

Our content is meant for readers 19 or older (18 or older in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec). Each operator verifies age and identity itself and can shut an account and hold back winnings when that verification fails.

Odds are moving targets

Prices quoted in previews, comparisons and examples were correct when we looked. Lines move with team news, money and time; a market can be suspended without notice. Only the price confirmed on your betslip is the price you get.

Promo codes and welcome offers

Codes expire, get capped or are replaced, and many offers carry rollover, minimum odds, qualifying markets and time limits. Ontario rules restrict how inducements may be advertised there, so an offer we describe may not be open to Ontario players at all. Read the full terms at the operator before you opt in.

Previews and predictions

Match previews, tipster-style picks and “best bets” are opinions based on information available on the day of writing. Injuries, weather and line-ups change. A confident tone is not a guarantee.

Live betting and cash-out

In-play markets depend on data feeds that can lag. Operators may delay acceptance, reject a bet at a changed price or withdraw cash-out at any moment. These are operator decisions governed by its house rules.

Parlays, props and settlement

How a void leg, a postponed fixture, overtime or a player who does not start is settled differs from one sportsbook to the next. Our explanations describe common practice; the operator’s settlement rules decide your bet.

Casino and poker guides

Return-to-player figures come from game developers and describe the long run, not an evening. Poker traffic, rake and tournament guarantees are reported by the room and can change between our checks.

Lottery odds

Our lottery pages calculate probabilities from the published game matrix. They are arithmetic, not forecasts. Every draw is independent, and no pattern of past numbers improves your chances.

Payments

Which deposit methods you can use, with what limits, fees and payout speed, depends on the operator and the payment company, and changes with province, card issuer and verification status. A method listed in a review may not be available to you.

Ratings and rankings

Scores reflect editorial judgement against the checklist on How we review. Some ranked operators pay us referral commissions; the effect this can have is described on Referral commissions.

Event coverage

Kick-off times, venues and broadcast details on our event pages are collected in advance. Confirm them with the league or organiser on the day.

Account limits and closures

Sportsbooks may cap the stake they accept from you, drop you from promotions or shut an account whenever their terms permit, often without giving reasons. Our reviews report what operators publish about this and what readers tell us, but we cannot predict how a particular operator will treat a particular customer.

Verification and withdrawals

Before paying out, operators usually ask for photo ID, a recent utility bill or bank statement, and now and then evidence that the card or wallet used is yours. Processing times we mention are the operator’s stated targets, not commitments we can enforce. Keep your documents ready and read the withdrawal rules before you deposit.

Mobile apps

App features, supported devices and store availability change with each release and can differ between Android and iOS or between provinces. Screenshots and descriptions on our pages show the version we tested.

Esports, specials and novelty markets

Markets on esports, awards shows, politics or entertainment follow special settlement rules and are not offered everywhere. Where we mention them, treat the description as a general explanation rather than a promise that the market exists today.

Statistics and calculators

Team records, head-to-head figures and the worked examples in our odds and payout explainers are given to illustrate a method. Data sources make mistakes and records are revised; a calculator result is only as good as the numbers you enter.

Responsible gambling content

Our pages on limits, self-exclusion and warning signs are general information. They cannot stand in for guidance from a counsellor, a doctor or a specialist help service, and the tools they describe are run by operators and provincial programmes whose rules may change.

Brand names and logos

Operator, league and team names and marks appear only to identify what we are writing about. Showing them implies no endorsement of Extra Betting, or of the opinions published here, by any league, club or operator.

Taxes

We give no tax or legal advice. Put questions about the treatment of winnings to your accountant or to the CRA.

Betting is a cost, not an income

Over time the margin built into every price works against the bettor. Decide in advance what you can afford to lose, use deposit and time limits, and stop when it stops being fun. If betting is harming you or a person you care about, ConnexOntario (1-866-531-2600) answers free of charge at any hour.
